PsychicEmotion6 Vol. 5 (Drama CD Review)

Hello! I'm here once again to saturate my blog with another PsychicEmotion6 post! Don't worry, there's only two more to go after this one!

In a previous post, I mentioned that I managed to obtain one of the drama CDs for a super cheap price, so cheap that I had no idea how the Amazon seller could even profit off of it. Well, I just listened to the CD, five minutes ago actually, and now I'm here to review it, sort of...

As you can see from the image above, the CD I managed to get was Subaru's. I ordered it before playing his route, and even though in the game I didn't really care for him, I liked him quite a bit in this audio drama thing.

The disc is split into multiple tracks, and each are about three to four minutes long. No, there is no dummy head microphone used here, at least I don't think. There were a few parts that may have used it, but it could have just been edited in to be all surround-sound-like afterwards. The backing music that is used is exactly the same as what is used in the game.

As expected, the plot is exactly the same as the Vita game too. There isn't really much of an emphasis on it though, it's just Subaru hanging out with the heroine and doing stuff like brewing tea and shopping and all that. Luckily, there was no prince cafe or Christmas party in this one!

Something really strange happened when I was listening to this though. Like always with drama CDs, I was lying in my bed in the dark with this on through the earphones. The audio came on and I was paying full attention, but then I started to feel sleepy... I never ever fall asleep, unless I'm super tired. I think I actually fell asleep very lightly during one part, and what made it funny was that I dozed off in the exact bit where Hikari/the listener was supposed to be asleep! So I woke up and snapped back to my senses, and Subaru was saying stuff like "goodnight", and then it just ended! I was wondering if I had fell asleep for longer and missed a lot of the plot, but then I looked at the runtime for the disc: half an hour. I don't think I had missed anything though, because usually during situations like these I fall asleep for a few seconds only.

The reason why I fell asleep wasn't because the drama CD was boring, it was just a combination of the darkness, warm quilt, Junichi Suwabe's relaxing voice, and the fact that I had only drunk two cups of tea that day.

I actually really liked this CD though. It was relaxing, good Japanese listening practice, and entertaining. From what I can recall, there were some cute romance scenes, but of course nothing too sexual or anything. I don't think Hikari/the listener and Subaru were even dating during this story.

Now, the question is, would I buy another one of these CDs? I think I would, as long as they're not too expensive. PsychicEmotion6 stuff seems to be quite cheap on Amazon and other places right now, so maybe I'll get another one soon.

This really concludes my review. I never intended for it to be very long anyway.

My next review will be on Tsukasa's route in the Vita game. I've almost finished playing it, but I don't think I'll write about it until the weekend is over. I might even just relisten to this CD to check if I missed anything.

I think I'll try and have a nap now...
