I'm here again, this time reviewing Mizuki's route. The general structure of this one is basically the same as the last two I've played, so summarising most of it will just be a waste of time. It seems that each route follows the same basic formula, just adding in a few little character specific things to spice it up.
Here is how the plot of every single route goes:
Character X and Hikari hang out at school.
There's a big test at one point and the Hikari tells everybody how important it is to study.
The school fair happens and everybody works together to host a prince cafe.
Character X does something nice to Hikari at the school fair, and there's a CG.
Character X and Hikari do some cooking or shopping or even both.
Character X and Hikari help a child in some way.
It's Christmas, and everybody does a play for the orphanage kids, with Kazuteru being the prince and Hikari the princess.
A problem occurs that requires Character X and Hikari to travel to Character X's home planet.
Character X tries to solve the problem.
The problem is impossible to solve.
Right at the last minute, Hikari saves the day with her powers.
Everybody is happy.
(In the Marriage Ending) The other love interests visit Hikari and Character X on the planet and tell them that they were worried.
Hikari and Character X wed.
The end.
I really hope that the locked routes switch things up a bit, because these routes are all basically the same as each other! Yes, I know other otoge share similar structures amongst their routes, but never to this degree!
When I played my first route in PsychicEmotion6, everything was new and fresh and it was quite fun, but with Mizuki's route, I just feel a bit meh... Yes, the fluffy romance was good, I suppose, but everything was so predictable. In the final chapters when the bad stuff was happening, I didn't really care because I knew Hikari was going to fix it all at the last second. I could predict exactly when she was going to travel to Venus with Mizuki, because the intergalactic space travel has happened at the same time in every route so far! Even the bloke who did the marriage ceremony at the end says the exact same lines in every route, so I just skip some of them now!
I'm not going to bother to even recount much of the plot of this one, because if you've read my reviews on the other routes, you know what to expect. I will talk about Mizuki though, because otherwise this post will just be pointless.
Mizuki is the prince of Venus, and the token shota of the game. I was so scared that he was going to be twelve years old or something, but luckily he's the same age as everybody else. His hobby is building stuff, like robots and snow machines and all that. Mizuki's planet is actually peaceful, unlike Aoi and Kazuteru's, which is a relief. I thought he was going to have some kind of dark side, and end up going all yandere on Hikari, but we got none of that.
But of course, every otome route has to have some kind of problem going on, and Mizuki's is something a bit different, I suppose. One day, he faints and won't wake up for a few days. It turns out that it's because the moon is hidden, and he's actually an android that uses moonlight as power. His parents never told him this for some reason. So he gets really sad, but Hikari tells him that it doesn't really matter if he's a robot or not.
In order to confront his parents and ask them for his tragic back story, Mizuki and Hikari travel to Venus, a planet that actually feels different to Earth this time. They have a lot of computery stuff there, and as Hikari says, it's a bit like a sci-fi film setting.
Mizuki asks his parents why he's a robot, and they immediately tell him the truth. Writing all of this is reminding me of that Spongebob episode "Krab Borg", even though the plots are hardly similar.
Anyways, Mizuki asks his parents and they say that he was originally a human, but in the past he went into some kind of computer world and never came back, so they just put his soul into a robot so that he wasn't gone for good. They told him that it's possible for him to get his old body back, but if he does, he'll lose all of his memories for some reason. Luckily, Mizuki built a machine that remembers stuff, so they decide to get his real body back. I don't really understand though, wouldn't it be a lot better to be a robot than a human? When Mizuki was a robot, he didn't get ill or hurt or anything, and he was probably immortal. Why would anyone give all of that up?
When Mizuki goes in the computer world thing to get his body back, some virus attacks everything. They pronounced "virus" as "uveerus", so I had no idea what they were going on about at first. The virus does a bit of damage, but Hikari's powers fix it, and everything turns out good in the end.
Oh yeah, there was also this kid in hospital that Hikari and Mizuki hung out with, but they sort of just forgot about him in the end because I think he moved to America or somewhere.
You can probably tell from today's writing that I don't really care that much for the plot of this one. Yes, I did have fun playing it, but it was just a bit boring reading the same stuff again. The ending seemed like it was taking forever, they just kept doing school stuff when I just wanted them to hurry up and get married!
Mizuki as a character is alright, I suppose, but it sort of just felt like Hikari was dating someone's little brother, not someone her age. The special scenario with Mizuki in bed with the heroine just felt creepy, because he's basically like a little kid. Shota characters are always hit or miss with me. Sometimes I really like them, other times I just find them a bit creepy. Well, I don't really find the characters themselves creepy, just the way their routes and the romance is all written. I'd much rather have had Mizuki as a side character or little brother, instead of a love interest, to be honest. But of course, someone out there likes romancing these kinds of bishies, because otherwise Otomate wouldn't have added him in.
At least the CGs were good, and the soundtrack too. Mizuki's character/planet theme song sounded so good. It was like every early 2010s EDM ever, but I really enjoy that style of music.
I am expecting the next route, Shina's, to probably follow the same formula as the last three. Let's just pray to the otome gods that the locked routes will be different!
I don't really know what else to say in this review now, so I'm just going to end it right here. Sorry that this post is shorter than the others.
Bye.
