Welcome to another very informal review on PsychicEmotion6. Please be aware of spoilers!
I don't really know where to start, to be honest.
Um..... Well........................
This route basically goes through the exact same events as the other four, so there's not really any point talking about them again. I know other otoge can get repetitive, but I've never experienced anything on this level. When I start a new route, I want something fresh and different, not just a reskinned version of the last one! I think I've complained about the copypasta enough now, so I should move on.
Let's talk about Subaru, shall we? He's a prince of Saturn, but I think there's a backstory segment that says that it got destroyed or something, I don't know. Subaru seems a lot older than the rest of the cast, but he's still the same age as them. Reading and tea are his hobbies, so that's alright I suppose. Oh yeah, he's also hiding a very strange secret that I'll get to later.
Sorry, I'm finding it hard to write this review, probably because I actually finished the route yesterday.
Subaru was a decent bloke, but he wasn't really my favourite out of the cast. He got some really good CGs though. It sucks because I just got his drama CD in the post. Oh well, I got it basically for free with Swagbucks, and at least the voice acting's really good.
The slice of life parts of his route consist of him hanging out in the library with Hikari, or making her tea. In the obligatory Christmas play scene, Kazuteru backs out of it at the last minute, so Subaru has to play the hero instead. He ends up ditching the script and making his lines a lot more romantic, so that he can say them to Hikari on the stage. There's also this part I forgot about where he uses his healing powers to save this cat, but it drains him of energy or something. Throughout the route, we also hear Subaru chatting to someone secretly, which makes it so obvious that he's working with the bad guys.
There's this depressing backstory flashback scene where Subaru's a child and he's lost his family, and then at the end he says something like "That's when I met him". I immediately guessed that he was talking about Tsukasa, and it later turned out that I was right...
After the Christmas party is when things actually start to get interesting!
Subaru takes Hikari out by the lake/river/ocean (I don't know what it's supposed to be!) and confesses his love to her. He's spitting out all these lovely romantic lines, and Hikari just replies with "Oh... thank you..." That's one of the things I dislike sometimes about these blank slate MCs. They never say anything interesting or nicely written, and whenever the LIs do anything romantic to them, they just crash and don't even express their feelings properly. It's always just "Oh........ I think I love you too... Maybe..."
After the confession scene, Subaru runs off and runs into Tsukasa, who says some stuff I can't remember to him. It all ends in them kidnapping Hikari, and carting her off all the way to Saturn.
This is when we get some interesting revelations, most of which I couldn't understand. Apparently Tsukasa wants to use Hikari's hidden magic powers to save Subaru's planet, but to do that they have to kill her. They both travelled to Earth and lied to her just so they could kill her in the end. I think they also said that the Engage Ceremony is actually the Sacrifice Hikari Ceremony, but nobody else knows this. Why didn't they say something in the other routes when the ceremony happened? Why didn't she die then?
Subaru was all for this in the beginning, but of course, now that he loves Hikari, he has to make the difficult decision between saving his planet or her. I think he tells Tsukasa that he won't sacrifice her, but this doesn't go down very well.
Tsukasa just stabs Subaru. This came out of nowhere, and it made me laugh out loud. (I'm not a horrible person, honest)
Tsukasa then just runs off somewhere, and now Hikari and Subaru are just stuck in the middle of nowhere.
But Subaru saves her by revealing his true form:
Yes, he turns into an alicorn. No, I couldn't believe it either. If someone had told me that this happens before, I would've told them they were joking, this game is PsychicEmotion6, not My Horse Prince! This revelation was so hilarious and random. I think they foreshadowed it before, but of course I never picked that up because my Japanese isn't that good yet. I actually don't know if Subaru's actually really an alicorn pretending to be a man, or if he's a man who has the power to become an alicorn. (I was wondering this, because I wanted to know what would happen if he had a baby with Hikari, would it be a half-horse Equestria Girls looking thing, or just a normal human?)
Subaru flies Hikari away, and they land in some dark cave. He tells her to stay while he tries to find Tsukasa, but she begs him to let her come. So they go, and they find some massive tree root thing that makes people ill, I don't really understand what it does to be honest.
So they find Tsukasa, and they're like "Please stop" and he's like "No", but eventually he gives in when the tree root thing makes him ill. Hikari insists on saving him, because friendship is magic or something. He literally just stabbed her boyfriend and almost killed her, but she's really going to let him live? Alright then. Also, when she found out that Subaru had been planning to sacrifice her all along, she didn't really seem to care that much. Or maybe she did, and I just never picked it up.
So they drag Tsukasa to safety, but he eventually just buggers off and leaves them. Eventually, Kazuteru and the others manage to find them. Hikari tells them what happened, and they're really hesitant on forgiving Subaru, but in the Marriage Ending, they do. I don't know about the other endings, because I'm too lazy to play them yet.
The other endings are usually better than the wedding ones, because the marriages always go in the exact same way. I haven't played any of the bad ones yet, but I've done the "Twilight" endings, and some of them, especially Shina's, are much more romantic.
This route was.... well.... I liked that we found out a bit more about Tsukasa and the Engage Ceremony, and I suppose the romance was alright, but I'm just tired of reading about the same bloody Christmas party and prince cafe nonsense over and over again. I really hope that at least Hidaka's route is a bit different and that the drama CDs aren't the same like the routes are.
I think I'm just getting burnt out on this game now. This isn't the game's fault, it's just me insisting that I finish it quickly. I do this with books too. I should probably just play the game at my own pace, instead of forcing myself through it. It doesn't really help that I have Hakuoki to play after this...
Now I'm going to leave to put Subaru's drama CD on my iPod. I'll see you all in the next review!
