I've been thinking about this film a lot since I watched it, so I thought I'd sit down and spill them all on this page. It'll be a bit like my otome "reviews", where they aren't really proper reviews, just a list of my opinions on the game. There's gonna be so many spoilers down below, so if you haven't already seen the film, please don't read this! You have been warned. There's so much to talk about so I'm probably going to forget a lot of it, but it doesn't matter.
When I walked my local cinema, about 90% of the screens were showing Endgame, and the sound was leaking out into the hallways. I was super paranoid that I was going to hear something spoilery so I had to wear headphones so that I couldn't hear anything.
Before I went to see the film though, I was trying so hard to avoid spoilers online, but I ended up finding them in real life instead! I was somewhere in public and I heard these kids talking about Endgame, and one of them said out loud "Iron Man dies!", then going on to say how you could just watch the entire film online. This was on Tuesday, so literally not long after the movie's premiere. I wasn't really sure if this was going to be true, but yesterday afternoon I heard a different person say the same thing, and then I knew that it was probably going to happen.
I thought that maybe Tony Stark was going to pass away not long after he'd been brought back to Earth, because he looked like he was in pretty bad shape during those scenes. But he died near the end of the film instead. I didn't cry (I don't really get that emotional with fiction to be honest) but I could hear a lot of the other people in the cinema sniffling. It was quite a sad way to go, but at least he was surrounded by most of his friends and family.
Even though I didn't cry at all during this film, I did feel a bit sad near the beginning because all of the characters were depressed and people had lost their families and all that. I expected it to start with the Marvel Studios logo, so when it opened onto a shot of the farm I initially thought it was an advertisement or something.
Before I watched Endgame I didn't really care much for Hawkeye. He didn't really get enough screentime for me to really take an interest in him. But after seeing him in this, I think he's actually quite awesome. That action scene of him in Japan was super cool. I understood a bit of the Japanese in that too! I remember a bit where he held a sword out and it popped out of the screen in 3D and looked quite cool. Normally the 3D does absolutely nothing to these films so it was nice to have that effect in there.
Of all the people to die though, I had no idea that Natasha was gonna go out. That scene on Vormir with her and Clint was so sad but also really well done. I think she splatted on the ground in the same position that Gamora did in the last film, with the blood spilling out in the same place too. In Infinity War I didn't really care for her blonde hair that much, but when it started growing out and it was half ginger, it looked really pretty. I know that looks don't really matter but I just had to point that out.
There were so many side characters from solo films that I didn't expect to appear, like Valkyrie, Korg, the Ancient One and all the others I can't remember. They were probably put in for fan service or something, but it doesn't matter. It was great to see Loki again, even though he didn't get brought back to life. I knew that he probably wasn't going to come back anyway. At least he's getting a TV show on that Disney streaming service that I'm probably never going to get.
Another thing I was actually also spoiled for was the time travel thing. I read some leaks on 4Chan and Reddit about it months ago, but oh well. They did a good job of not putting that in the trailer though. Most of the stuff in the trailer was from the first part of the film before they went to the past.
When Thanos literally just got his head cut off early on I thought it was too anti-climatic a way to kill such a cool villain, so I'm glad that his past self came back later on with Gamora and Nebula. Nebula was so awesome in this film, I've always liked her a lot but now I just like her even more. She's grown so much since the first Guardians of the Galaxy film! I thought that once her past self came in to take over it we weren't gonna see anymore of her, but then she came back to fight so that was good.
I feel sorry for Star-Lord now because Gamora's now just her past self who doesn't know him at all. Maybe he can make her fall in love with him again in the next Guardians of the Galaxy film? I dunno where Gamora went at the end though, because I didn't see her with the others. At least her character's not gone for good, because I liked her.
I think that Thor might be in the next GotG installment, so that might be interesting. He's basically free to do what he wants now that he just left his people to Valkyrie. I did not expect him to let himself get so obese! I think some people complained about that but I didn't mind it. He literally lost his home, his family and most of his people so it's understandable that he'd turn into some alcoholic, Fortnite playing loser. The scene where he was in the past on Asgard and Rocket told him to get his shit together and stop crying (I can't remember exactly what he said to be honest) was really good in my opinion. They actually have quite a lot of chemistry together, those two, even though you wouldn't really expect it.
The time travel bit was done well. I do enjoy myself a good time travel story. They created so many alternate realities though. When they went back to 2012 and accidentally let Loki get the Tesseract, I thought they were going to have to find him and fight him for it, but nope, they just went back to the 1970s to get it instead. I suppose it would've been impossible to find him anyways, but I really just wanted to see more of Loki since he's my favourite.
I thought that Captain Marvel was gonna have more screen time here, but she literally was just there in the beginning to rescue Tony and Nebula (I thought they were going to spend a lot of the film trying to get back themselves, actually) and then just went off somewhere until the final big fight scene. I'm not really complaining because she's not exactly my favourite character, but I thought they were going to try and push her character a lot in this film. Oh well. She's a new addition to the universe so it makes sense for her to not have a massive part in the ensemble films yet.
I really want to see this film again but in IMAX instead. It'll probably look really good on a massive screen like Infinity War did. But it looked good in standard 3D, and this time there were actually a few decent effects done with it. The only reason I chose to watch it like this was because IMAX was all booked up except the front row (the worst place to sit when watching it on a screen of that scale) and because it was one of the few with a decent seat available.
There is a lot more to talk about, but I can't remember it all right now, so I'm just going to end this post off here. I really loved this film, it's awesome and it was worth sitting in a dark room for three hours to see it! I'm glad I didn't get too much of it spoiled to me!
I know this isn't an otome related post but who cares, before otome this blog used to talk about all kinds of random things.
See you all in the next post! ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
