A Rubbish Review of Hiroya's Route

Previously on Misty's Blog: I went through two more Period Cube bad endings, and they weren't as interesting for me as the ones I had done first! At that point, I had only two more routes to go, Poyo-Poyo and Hiroya's. I was actually quite excited to play both of them, and not because it meant that the game would be over.

.............................................................................................................................................................

I finished Hiroya's route, but I fear that my memory of the plot is going to be as bad as it was in the last review I wrote. Ouch, my cat just bit my arm whilst I wrote that. So, let's get into the review before I forget everything, shall we?

(Don't forget to watch out for spoilers!)

This route has the same common route branch as Libera's, so what happens is basically the same until Hiroya and Kazuha decide to travel to Twilight Capital with her and stay at the inn. A lot of things might've happened in between that, but I can't remember

Kazuha has to share a room with Hiroya, so he forces himself to sleep on the floor whilst she gets the bed. This has happened in multiple routes so far, the heroine sharing a room with her love interest. In fact I think most of the routes spend a huge portion of their time in Twilight Capital. We never get to see the Angel city (I dunno what it's called) that much, except in Astrum's route. I wish there was a bit more variety!

Hiroya has a bit of an argument with Kazuha, which results in him getting annoyed that she doesn't rely on him more or something. He finds out that she has a wound on her leg, and we get a CG of him licking it clean. Oh dear, this is giving me Diabolik Lovers flashbacks... I think Kazuha pushes him off her or something? I'm sorry, my memory is so bad. To be honest, I dunno why I have a habit of recapping the whole route in my reviews, I don't really need to do that but it's quite fun. I'm pretty sure Hiroya apologises for this all later anyway. I forgot, they also get an in-game message from Shiki, so Kazuha replies to that.

That same evening, Hiroya gives Libera some money to buy some healing supplies, but the little shit just runs off with it and never returns. How pleasant. There's also a screenshot of Kazuha using her Almighty powers that gets passed around, they think it's also Libera's doing but it's actually just Demento. They run into Demento a bit later too, there's even a CG of him that you need to get the trophy for finding all of his images.

They also go back to the real world and find this forum post made by Astrum, so they give him a call and meet up with him. Hiroya and Astrum didn't really get along that well, and I think they discuss something to do with World V? Astrum just leaves eventually and says that there wasn't much point meeting them or something.

We get a little bit of Kazuha's backstory here too. When she was a small child, she was hanging out with her brother when Hiroya just suddenly called out to her. She immediately ran over to him, but she ran across the road and got hit by a car. Hiroya blamed himself for the incident, but I really think it's actually Kazuha's fault. I know she was just a little girl, but it's a bit stupid to run straight into a road without looking. Didn't they teach her any road safety skills at school? I'm pretty sure this is the reason why they became a bit distant over the years. It's also why Hiroya's super protective of her, so much that I thought he was going to go all yandere on us and trap her in a room like he attempted in Radius' route.

My mind is so empty right now... So, some stuff happens and I'm pretty sure Forte approach Kazuha but she doesn't join them or whatever. Eventually, Hiroya's like "We have to conquer the Ark!" so they all gather a lot of players to go and complete it.

When they go through the Ark, I'm quite certain that Shiki saves them from something. His outfit is almost exactly like Poyo-Poyo's so I have no idea how nobody noticed that at all. Shiki gets pissed off at Hiroya for apparently doing nothing to help Kazuha (this is a bit like what happens in Zain's bad ending), so Hiroya asks him what he did to save her. For someone who has complete control over the game, he really could've done something to get his sister out of all those tricky situations she was in, especially since he knew she was running round Arcadia from quite early on.

I think Hiroya gets sucked into the Period Cube, and maybe Kazuha gets sent back to the real world and told by Natsu to use her powers to stop everything? Oh wait, I think she goes inside the Cube and with Natsu's help, she picks up Hiroya's soul? Oh yeah, and Libera's inside the Cube too, but I didn't care that much, to be honest.

So she goes back to the real world and rushes to find Astrum. On her way she runs into Radius, who has no idea what's going on but offers to help anyway. They all go to Shiki's apartment and I think Hiroya wakes up then? They make some plan to destroy the Period Cube, and then get whooshed back to World V.

In the end, everybody except Kazuha gets sucked into the Cube, so she uses her magical Amadeus powers to stab Shiki. Then she's in this weird book room where this deep-voiced bloke using the body of a younger Shiki (she saw this exact world when she almost died from being run over, and it brought her back to life somehow). The man's name is the Warden, and he's just like "Here's this magical book which'll give you what you want!" and she gets sucked back to World V and she stops everything by bringing the others back, and they all live happily ever after. It's always super easy for the Period Cube to be broken once they defeat all the bosses, and here it was the same.

They all wake up, including Shiki (I thought that he'd die from being stabbed, but since he basically controls the game, I suppose he wouldn't), who again has lost all his memories, meaning that he can't get done by the cops for anything! Hiroya awkwardly asks Kazuha out, even though they kissed before (sorry, I forgot to mention that!) and I always assume that a kiss means that you're dating now, but then again I know absolutely nothing about romance. The final kiss CG isn't even really a proper kiss CG, because their mouths aren't even touching properly!

Yeah... That's all I can remember from this route. I'm glad I took screenshots, because they helped me remember things. Oh dear, this review looks so lacklustre compared to the others.

I actually didn't mind this route. Hiroya's a decent character, and is actually really a nice person. If he isn't a yandere at all in his good ending, I expect he's going to become one in the bad ending like almost everybody else in this game. The romance was actually not rushed, but that was because their whole relationship was developed mostly off-screen.

Hiroya's on the game cover and I think he loves Kazuha no matter who she picks, so I think he's supposed to be the poster boy and the canon route for this game. But usually the canon route's locked, so is Shiki supposed to be the canon one for her?? Or is he just the locked secret route? I suppose this route lets you meet all of the characters, it gives out loads of backstory for the MC and loads of the main plot details are found out, so it feels like a True Route™ to me.

This route wouldn't be my favourite, but I would probably put it above literally everybody else's path except Astrum's and maybe Radius'. Although Radius doesn't have a perfect route, I feel a bit biased towards it because it was the first one I did. Once I'm done with this game, I'll have to make a ranking of my favourite routes. I've never actually made one of them before, so it'll be fun.

That's really all I can say about this route. This post feels like it's way shorter than the others, so I'll apologise for that and my terrible memory. I know I could just write down notes whilst I play, but then that makes it feel less like a game and more like a school project, so no thanks.

I suppose I'll see you all next week then. On the weekends I take breaks from otome, even though I really should be playing them then instead of in the working week.

Goodbye!

.................................................................................................................................................

Next time on Misty's Blog: I'm going to complete the last route review for Period Cube, go over the remaining two bad endings, then I'll be done with the game! Then I'm going back to the PSP to play a Japanese exclusive Hakuoki fan-disc. I know my Japanese sucks, but I found this for really cheap on Amazon (meaning it was an impulse buy) and the newer games for the Vita are super expensive right now, so I'm playing it!
