This will be my final post on Period Cube, unless a fan-disc ever comes out and I review that. Like the title says, I'll be going through the last two bad endings I have and basically just writing my thoughts on them.
Let's get started, shall we?
(Oh yeah, beware of spoilers down below!)
Hiroya's Ending
This ending, like all the others, branches off in the final fight scene. Hiroya sacrifices himself to the Period Cube to make Misty, I mean Kazuha, happy! Sorry, because I changed the MC's name I sometimes forget that it's not actually my name....
So Hiroya gets sucked into the Period Cube. Misty (I did it again!), no, Kazuha has a conversation with Shiki, who tells her that he loves her and all that stuff. Kazuha asks him if Hiroya will be alright if she goes into the new world, and if he'll be happy and all that. Her brother says that he will, so she just lets him get on with gathering some more souls to bed fed to the Period Cube.
The final two unlucky victims of the Period Cube are Ira and Miseria. Ira demands Shiki to know where the rest of her guild went, whilst failing to destroy him with her axe. Shiki just laughs and calls her "chibi-chan" and sends her off into the Cube with a happy "Bye-Bye!". Miseria tries to summon her magical ghoul things but it won't work, she just goes off into the Cube too.
Now the Cube is complete. Shiki's like "I love you, Imoto-chan~!" and he says that when they go to the new world, him, Kazuha and Hiroya can all be friends again. Kazuha says that she loves Shiki too, but then she stabs him. I had heard that this was going to happen, but I had completely forgotten, so I was like "Oh no!", even though Kazuha's brother really does deserve to be killed like that. Still, poor Shiki! :(
The Period Cube starts doing its work, and Kazuha gets zapped into that weird bookshelf place again. What was it called, the Akashic Records or something? She sees the Warden looking like her brother as a child, and he gives her this massive book. Then Kazuha goes into the Period Cube, finds Hiroya's soul and sucks it into her. Then she gets the other souls and uses them to create the new world and make it just perfect!
Then there's a time skip, and she wakes up in this pretty field with Hiroya. I don't think I've seen the background they used for this before, actually. Hiroya kisses her and acts all lovey-dovey with her.
Kazuha takes him to this room, and it's the room where they have the final battle in, except there's blood everywhere. Hiroya remarks on how it seems very familiar. Then they kiss and both wear matching rings as they promise to be together forever. Kazuha inner monologues as she remarks on how her lover doesn't have to know what she did to create this world where they can be together alone forever. Then it ends.
This was another one of those endings where it's Kazuha who goes all yandere instead. This ending was quite good, especially with that pretty CG! But still, Shiki died... :( I don't know why I'm feeling bad because he is a scumbag, but I didn't think Kazuha had it in her to kill him off... I don't think this is my favourite ending, but it's still a decent one. I'm just glad that these endings are actually worth reading, instead of the boring ones where you just take a wrong turn and die somehow.
Now I've got the final bad ending to go through. If all goes well, after this one I should get a platinum trophy, although I'm scared that I won't because for some reason I should have the dictionary completion one by now but I don't.
Shiki's Ending
I just want to say before I start, this is my favourite ending in the entire game. It's just so awesome and messed up, exactly my cup of tea.
Kazuha doesn't want her brother to create a messed up world just for her, so she does something, I dunno what she does really, it looks like she just waits for the Period Cube to do its stuff.
Then there's a time skip, and Kazuha wakes up in her room in the real world. Shiki comes into her room, and tells her that she should get out of bed to have some of his French toast! Yum, I love French toast, I tried making it once but it failed epically. Sorry, that has nothing to do with the actual game.
After eating some yummy French toast, Kazuha goes out to school. (If this is a fake world where they can be happy and do what they want, why bother going to school?) On her way there, she meets up with Hiroya, who tells her that everybody's going round Shiki's flat for hot pot later on, and that Kazuha should come. After agreeing to go, they say goodbye and I think they go off to do pointless education when they could really do whatever they want if it's not the real world.
Later on, Kazuha meets up with Rei in front of the station. They go off to the convenience shop and buy something, which Rei kindly offers to carry for her. Demento's the one who serves them in the shop, and he jokingly threatens to keep Kazuha's money because she forgets to pick it up because she's your typical dumb MC.
Then Rei and Kazuha go off to Shiki's apartment. On the way they see Zain dressed in his normal Arcadia clothes, so they invite him to join the party too. Inside waiting is Toru, Natsu (not dead, luckily!), Riku and of course, Shiki. Hiroya also joins them a bit later, too.
Toru is getting annoyed with Shiki because of the flavour of hot pot he's cooking. Really everybody's just bantering around and acting all happy. Like usual, Toru's acting a bit awkward whilst trying to flirt with Kazuha, it's quite cute. They then eat and everybody's satisfied because it sounds like Shiki's quite a good cook. I think they suggest that next time Kazuha should cook something too. After dinner, they all have a cup of tea like a happy group of friends. I think our heroine thinks about how things can be happy because this is a world where she and her brother can do whatever they want or something.
Later on, they all say goodbye. Shiki takes Kazuha back to her bedroom, then this happens.
(Sorry if you can't see the CG!)
Yep, we actually get a bra shot of Kazuha. Nice. Shiki asks his sister why she was making him all jealous, flirting with everybody during the dinner party. He says that he wants to touch her to make sure that she's his. Kazuha tries to get him to stop, but of course, it doesn't work. Why do I find scenes like this hot?
Then the screen fades to black, and I presume they just shagged right there. Kazuha wakes up and it's all happy. Then we're actually presented with two dialogue choices!
The first one makes Kazuha remark on how happy this new day's going to be, and it basically restarts the whole ending again, suggesting that the whole world's running on one big loop.
The second choice makes Kazuha wonder if she's forgetting something, and then the world goes all glitchy and it suddenly goes all black. This makes me think that the server suddenly died or something. How creepy!
This is the best ending ever because everybody's all happy and bantering, and because we have a hot scene with my favourite boy in the game. Nobody dies, and even though they're all in a virtual world, if they're feeling content with it (because they don't know it's fake) then it's alright. This is way better than the good ending, in my opinion.
So that's it, I'm done with this game. It's the first game I've actually platinumed. Going through all the bad endings makes me want to go through my other games and do the same thing. If I can be bothered to go upstairs and change my Vita cartridge around, I might put Collar X Malice in and get some bad ending CGs there.
I think my favourite Period Cube routes would be either Astrum or Shiki's. My favourite character is Shiki, but I also really liked all the LIs too. As I said up there, my favourite bad ending was also Shiki's, but Astrum and Radius' were quite good too.
Ahh, now I can rest and say goodbye to this game for a while. I picked up a Japanese exclusive PSP Hakuoki fan-disc for cheap and I'm playing through that now, but I don't think I'll write a review on it because of how little I actually understand. It's a bit stupid to play games above my Japanese level, but I'm still having fun, so who cares?
This is the end of my post for now. I dunno what I'm gonna write about next since I'm basically almost finished with my backlog. I'm considering writing posts about my massive doll collection in the future, which isn't really otome related, but I don't really care.
Until the next post, I'll see you later! Bye!
