Well, we’ve finally reached the tenth post in this series! That’s a lot of writing I’ve been doing. Today I had planned to write something different instead, but I came across another Avatar Challenge in Napoleon’s route, so I just thought that I’d write about this today.
This is my first post made using Windows Live Writer. I used to use this on my old Wordpress blog, so I thought that I’d start using it again. Hopefully the formatting turns out alright.
I actually just realised something today. You know how the MC in IkeVamp is a blogger who writes about all of her adventures in the past inside her diary? I’m sort of doing the exact same thing as her, by writing down this entire route on this blog like a travel journal or something.
Last time I wrote, Napoleon had just left in the middle of the night to defeat the Duke of Wellington. MC tried to run off to find him, but Jean had told her that it was best to just stay and wait for him to come back. But you know our MC, she can’t just sit there while her man is trouble. So what does she do? She tries to find him anyway. Jean’s not so pleased with this, but he decides to accompany her anyway.
In Ikemen Sengoku, every route has a main love interest, but there’s also like this “unrequited love” thing where there’s another character who also has a crush on the MC. An example of this (skip this paragraph to avoid spoilers) is Mitsunari falling in love with MC in Kenshin’s route.
I have a feeling that Jean also sort of has a crush on MC, even though she’s already busy with Napoleon and he has no chance of her ever loving him back. It may sound a bit silly, but I remember a line Jean said somewhere in Napoleon’s route that serves as a bit of proof. I can’t recall exactly what it says, but it was something along the lines of “I now see why Napoleon has fallen in love with that girl.” He does also have a bigger part in this route than the rest of the supporting cast, so maybe it’s because he’s supposed to be the “unrequited love” character?
Jean and MC leave the mansion, and Jean’s like “I think that Napoleon might be in this forest, because that’s where I’d go for a fight.” It turns out that his first guess was right, Napoleon was actually in there. The forest has this little clearing by a cliff, and they spot the Duke and Napoleon having a little sword fight.
The Duke has obviously gone quite mad, apparently he’s not the same man that Napoleon knew. I think he’s actually a vampire too, that qualifies him to be a love interest! Well, he could be an LI, if only he had a sprite.
Eventually, Napoleon and his rival notice MC, but Jean protects her. I dunno if he’s protecting her because he loves her, or because he just cares about her as a friend. The game lets you choose whether you want to either thank Jean, do something related to Napoleon that I can’t remember, or look at both of them. I wanted to thank Jean, but then I wanted to be nice to both of them, so I decided to just look at them both. Well, MC doesn’t do it at the same time, she glances at one first, then the other. If this was a console game, I’d make the “Thank Jean” choice lead to some kind of “bad” ending where MC ditches Napoleon and goes for Jean instead. Well, it wouldn’t be a straight branch into that, I’d make multiple choices where you could choose which man to favour, and if you picked too many Jean-related choices, you’d end up with him instead, a bit like Period Cube where Astrum’s route can branch off into something else that I don’t want to talk about because spoilers.
Napoleon tells the Duke that he’s gone crazy and they have a back and forth about stuff that I can’t remember. He then decides to tell the Duke about how he met a lovely woman from the future, because of course he does. You can’t leave MC out of anything, I suppose. He talks about how MC told him how the future is full of nice, peaceful cities with a lot of light, and she feels touched that those words met so much to him. But of course, the Duke (I’m going to start referring to him as Arthur after this because that’s his first name) couldn’t care less and says that his and Napoleon’s fate has to end in tragedy. So what does he do? He pushes the both of them off a cliff.
I don’t know why I decided to screenshot that.
Cybird decided to leave me on a cliff hanger by putting an avatar challenge in right here.
I know Napoleon’s just been chucked off a cliff, but I’m not worried for him. He’s a vampire, so he’s only just going to be mildly hurt from this, and this game has no bad endings, so he’s not going to be killed off for good. But if we all know he’s going to be alright, why put this here? The writers probably wanted to create some kind of drama.
I didn’t expect there to be anymore avatar challenges though, now I have to decide where I want to devote my stamina to the latest event or this route! I’ve already started a post on this event, so I suppose I’d better finish it until the end.
This route feels like it has lasted forever, but that’s just because it’s been dragged out over a few weeks. If I had been able to sit down and just read it from start to finish, it would probably be a lot shorter than your typical console otome route. I hate waiting so long to complete these mobage stories, but on the brighter side, the longer they are, the more posts I can write, and the more my writing will improve! But then that means that my blog is saturated with IkeVamp posts. Oh well, that happens with every otome I cover.
If I had just written a single review on this route, I’d forget a lot of the plot details, and some of the events that get multiple paragraphs in these little recaps might only get a sentence dedicated to them instead.
The next post might be the final one I do on Napoleon’s route, if there are no more love challenges. It’ll be nice to finally move on to something else. I know in the past I’ve always taken the mickey out of mobile otoge, pointing out their cheesy stories and free-to-play mechanics, but I’m actually having a lot of fun with them. A lot of people, myself included, wouldn’t even be into otome if it weren’t for these games. They’re also good for the players who can’t afford console or PC games, because these titles still provide a fairly alright experience without spending a single penny.
That’s me done for today. Thank you all for spending your precious time reading this post. I really do appreciate it. I’ll see you all later then!
Oh dear, it turns out that when I tried to post this to my blog, it didn’t work. That means I’m gonna have to copy and paste this entire thing into the Blogger editor… If you see duplicate posts of this, that means that the program did do its job correctly, albeit very slowly.
